Government House

Victoria BC Canada Visitor's Guide

Government House is the official residence of British Columbia's Lieutenant Governor.  The Lieutenant Governor is the Queen's representative in the province.

The mansion was built in 1957.  It is used to by the Royal family and visiting foreign dignitaries as a residence and for formal gatherings.

Government house is a four level building that contains a large ballroom and formal dining room.

Government House is situated on a 36 acre estate that is open to the public for visits.  It is home to a number of beautiful gardens including the following:

  • BC Native Plant Garden
  • Cottage Garden
  • Herb and Flower Garden
  • Rock Garden
  • Rose Garden

Visitors can enjoy wonderful views of the Juan de Fuca Strait and Olympic Mountains from the rock garden located directly behind Government House.

Government House is located at 1401 Rockland Avenue in Victoria.
